NJASP was developed to identify, support, and celebrate Bermuda's next generation of elite athletes and the coaches who develop them. The Department of Sport and Recreation provides targeted financial support to junior athletes with proven potential, ensuring they have the resources they need to excel.

NJASP delivers meaningful encouragement and financial incentives to Bermudian junior athletes aged 15 to 19 who demonstrate commitment, promise, and achievement, alongside targeted support for the coaches building the pathways to elite performance.

Athlete Award

Empowering Bermuda's rising stars.

Programme goal

To provide meaningful encouragement and financial incentives to Bermudian junior athletes who demonstrate commitment, promise, and achievement in their sport.

Who can apply

  • Hold Bermudian status (proof required)
  • Aged 15 to 19 years at the time of application
  • Registered with a recognized NSGB; applications submitted through an NSGB
  • Sustained commitment, promise, and achievement with good attitude and maturity
  • Not currently receiving or eligible for Elite Athlete Assistance

Programme benefits

Funding supports one athlete per NSGB or an overseas coach working with a junior cohort. Eligible costs include:

  • Coaching / tuition — local or overseas development programmes
  • Equipment — essential sport-specific implements only
  • Travel — airfare, accommodation, and expenses for recognized international events
Coaches Award

Coaching the pathway to elite.

Programme goal

To support the attainment of coaching for one sport, or a program to assist a cohort of junior athletes in their pursuit of becoming elite and preparing to represent Bermuda in competition.

Who can apply

Coaches supporting Bermudian junior athletes aged 15 to 19, in good standing with their NSGB, who demonstrate commitment and achievement through recent results and a forward development plan aligned to an LTAD pathway.

Objectives

  • 1Recognize junior athletes who clearly demonstrate a trajectory of performance and potential.
  • 2Provide financial assistance for coaching a cohort of junior athletes in their pursuit of becoming elite.
  • 3Support progression along NSGB Long-Term Athlete Development pathways toward national team selection.
